Antique pine is the timber on which we built our reputation.
When we first started trading many years ago, antique
pine was the only wood we used. Although we have expanded
considerably over the years, the popularity of our antique
pine kitchen furniture has never waned.
The timber used is reclaimed pine up to two hundred years
old. The age of the timber gives a slightly battered finish
and the warm colour makes any room with our antique pine
furniture in it feel cosy and inviting.
Antique pine furniture is best suited to traditional kitchens,
whether they be in a Victorian townhouse, a barn conversion
or an ancient country cottage. The use of freestanding
pieces can further add to this traditional look while
providing useful storage space, with the added advantage
that if you move house you can take them with you.
The timber is dried to 8 – 10% moisture content,
the optimum level for domestic use. It is much harder
and far more stable than new wood. The carcasses are built
from solid pine throughout and like all our kitchens,
are sealed inside and out with an acrylic water-based
sealant. The outsides and the insides of the doors are
then wax polished by hand.
A hand-painted antique pine product is also available.
Traditional recipe ‘Buttermilk’ paint, available
in a wide range of colours, is used to give a soft, almost
chalky effect which is then sealed to give a durable finish. |
