Derby Townhouse Kitchen
The owners of this beautiful Victorian townhouse in Derby felt that the kitchen they had inherited with the property didn’t really suit the proportions of the rest of the house - it wasn’t very big and was rather dark. They decided to put a small extension on the side of the room, with a pitched ceiling and skylights to maximise light, and then opened out to a new orangery in the other direction which gave them a lovely light and airy dining area.
We were asked to design a contemporary shaker style kitchen that fitted in with the age and style of the property. We worked alongside the client’s interior designer to find the perfect stain for a row of oak units which house a Fisher & Paykel fridge-freezer (with a carefully designed recessed surround so that the fridge doors don’t protrude beyond the front of the surrounding cabinetry), a Fisher & Paykel wine cooler, a ‘breakfast’ cabinet with folding doors to hide the coffee machine and toaster, and a glass fronted drinks cabinet. The main L-shape kitchen area and island are painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Railings’ with porcelain worktops, and incorporate a Lacanche range cooker, a built-in extractor, integrated dishwasher, recycling bin system, and a Quooker tap. The large island was designed with a large open seating area with seating space on three sides, the size of which was carefully worked out to allow room underneath for their two beloved Hungarian Vizla’s to snooze.
As part of this project we also designed and installed a boot-room and a built-in media cabinet, but never got around to taking photos of those!
